Hat Styles

The Many Styles of Goldcoast Sunwear

SPRING | SUMMER

The Lifeguard

The ‘Lifeguard Hat’ was designed and marketed by our flagship brand, Peter Grimm, in the late 1980’s. The surf industry may have made this hat famous, but the pure functionality of its wide brim and comfort fit has made it popular. It is the perfect sun protection hat for doing anything in the sun. The latest trend in the Lifeguard scene has been the patterned underbrims that are both functional and fashionable. They add UPF 50+ Sun Protection with flair.

Drifters

This style radiates simple, all-American cool factor and is a trend that never seems to fade. Goldcoast Sunwear created the ‘Drifter’ for the Surf Industry. The shape is also loved by musicians and has become a staple in clubs worldwide. Goldcoast Sunwear has the largest selection of Drifter styles in the headwear industry. There is wire in the brim so that you can shape it to reflect your character.

Fedoras

A fedora conveys cool, carefree style. It is a hat that is creased lengthwise down the crown and pinched in the front on both sides. Fedoras can be creased with teardrop crowns, diamond crowns or center dents, and the positioning of pinches can vary. The brim goes all the way around the crown and can be left raw edge, finished with a sewn, bound or self-felt edges.

Caps

Standard caps have been a staple for years and can be a great option when staying active as their adjustable backs keep them on from biking to boating and anything in between. With their durable crown and bill (otherwise known as a visor) they are typically made from Cotton or Polyester and can have customized embroidered patches, breathable mesh crowns, adjustable plastic or faux leather clasps, stitching or embroidery.

Sun Protection Hats

The Resort style is a wide-brimmed hat with a flat or round crown and lots of historical style. Our Sun Protection hats are made from a variety of straws from around the globe. They can have wire in the brim to give them an extra curl in the front or shape-ability. Many of our styles are rated for UPF 50+ Sun Protection, have Vented Crowns for breathability, and are Crushable/Packable.

FALL | WINTER

Beanies

A beanie is a soft, close-fitting hat which is usually made of wool, synthetic material or fleece. Beanies are worn low on the head, covering the forehead, and can also be pulled down over the ears. There are two main varieties of beanies: those that hug the top of the head, and those that leave the top couple of inches of the hat sitting atop of the head. Beanies fashionably protect the head and ears from cold and wind, or can simply be a fashion statement. Bobble hats are beanies that are topped with a pompom.

Bomber/Trappers

A bomber hat is a cap with large ear-flaps, a chin strap and typically a short brim that is turned up at the front to show a lining made of fleece or fur. Bombers can also be made of felt, cotton or polyester.
